20th August 2016 4 nights. Really enjoyed a peaceful break. Great location for our new hobby of hill walking, made 6 peaks. Hot tub was great for tired feet. Thanks for a warm welcome.

15th-22nd August 2016. Lovely setting especially by the stream, wonderful to spend the hours just watching the time go by at Ellen Hall and the antics of the various birds. Had a lovely drive to Northallerton to visit family and friends on Wednesday, down through a very busy lake district and back over A66 for a change and drive. We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here.

15th August 2016 2 nights. Absolutely beautiful! 1st time in Cumbria and we are both in love with the peace and quite that comes with the area. Definitely a brilliant place to come to unwind from the stress of modern living. we both fell in love with the cottage as soon as we walked in.

7th-12th August 2016. This was our 1st visit to Ellen Hall but certainly won’t be our last. We’ve had the must relaxing time in the most beautiful setting. Thanks Jo and Wayne.

8th-12th August 2016. My 1st tine in the lakes and thought it was wonderful. The accommodation is out of the melee of the lakes so it makes it a perfect location to come back to. The cottage has everything you could want and highly recommend the bistro. We will definitely be returning.

9th-12th August 2016. Another perfect stay at Ellen Hall. Feels like home. Lovely visit to Keswock & Cockermouth and lovely meals at the Barn Bistro & Masons arms. Love spending time in the grounds & the hot tub is amazing. Wayne and Jo are perfect hosts as always.

31/07/16 – 7/8/16 Had a proper chilled and lovely stay. Lovely warm welcome from Jo and Wayne. The hydrotherapy hot tub is a must. Even though we weren’t in the Lakes itself you are on the border to almost everything. We will definitely be coming back. Brilliant.

24th-2nd August 2016. Thank you for a lovely stay. The Stable cottage is a great place for a holiday. The lakes are beautiful, especially Loweswater and Buttermere. Thornthwaite is well worth a visit- good coffee & cake in the Gallery. Thank you Wayne and Jo for all your help with the quiet places to visit.

30th July – 1st August ’16. What a wonderful place to place to stay: comfy bed, relaxing location- a home from home atmosphere! We both really enjoyed ourselves here, only if it was just a place to sleep at whilst attending a friends wedding. Would definately recommend! Jess & Fabz x

27th – 31st July 2016. Very warm welcome from Jo who was most helpful in every way. Accommodation very clean and well catered. Had  spectacular days out with beautiful scenery. Scafell pike was the toughest, however Keswick and Buttermere are worth a visit for a more relaxing walk! P.S used the hot tub twice fab!! Look forward to returning soon.

23rd-30th July 2016 Very relaxing stay- cottage had everything that we needed and Jo and Wayne were very warm and friendly- we certainly felt at home and the hot tub was a great treat! We enjoyed (as did Charlie) the mix of being near the coast- super walks on the beach- and the stunning area around Loweswater…..the Kirkstile pub is a must!!

22 – 25th July 2016. Short break for my birthday weekend. The cottage has everything you could need. Relaxation was what we wanted and that was what we got. Enjoyed sitting in the garden hearing the birds while having a glass or two of wine……Thank you Jo for advice on where to visit. Will definately be back.

16th – 25th July 2016. A really lovely property in a beautiful area. We have had a truly lovely week in such comfortable surroundings. Totally faultless. Hope we get the opportunity to come again in the future.

18th to 22nd July ’16. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere in a lovely rural setting. Well placed for visiting the Lakes and historic towns nearby. Ideal for pets with some great walks on the doorstep. Will look forward to a return visit.

We enjoyed walking around Crummock water (parked at Loweswater end- national trust car park)  The masons Arms in the village is worth a visit as is afternoon tea in Buttermere. Thank you.

6th May 2016 for 23 days.Another great holiday. Perfect host, fantastic cottage and the weather was perfect- almost as good as Oz. This is our 7th time to Ellen hall but sadly as we are now both octogenarians we will have to see what head office has to say. Love to Jo and Wayne.

16th Feb ’16 – 3 nights. Fab 3 nights stay! The cottage was lovely and clean with lots of little kitchen essentials we had forgotten. The hot tub is an absolute must- the perfect way to end a busy day in a beautiful setting. We will certainly be seeing you again soon!

18th Jan ’16 – 22nd Jan ’16. What a lovely idyllic setting! The cottage is very warm, cosy & comfortable & has everything you need. It was great to see a well equipped kitchen as we love to cook. Our morning tea & breakfasts were accompanied by the calming flow of the river Ellen & the charming views of grazing sheep. The Lake District is absolutely beautiful and we had a lovely walk…..We ended our day by enjoying a hydrotherapy which is a definite feature to try! Wayne & Jo are perfect hosts & we will definitely be back!

29 Dec – 1 Jan 2016. Our first time to this part of Cumbria & it has been the perfect place to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary and New Yrs. Cottage was cosy, clean & quiet. Hot tub was fantastic- a perfect way to relax after a long walk. Wandered up to the Bar’n’Bistro & food was AMAZING! Highly recommended. They were so accommodating & even Bramble our Lab was welcome. Weather very good as it always has been on our Gilcrux visits. Came here first 22 years ago on our Honeymoon & have been back several times since. Great place, x.

Just what we needed- the perfect little cottage in the middle of nowhere 🙂 . Visited Carlisle & Cockermouth and spent the evenings cooking together- a rarity in our busy lives.

Fri 2nd – Sun 4th Oct’15. We have had a lovely weekend break in this charming little cottage child free 🙂 ! Spent Saturday sight seeing. Enjoyed a browse at Keswick market followed by a lovely walk in the mountains at Buttermere, then a quick stop at Cockermouth. if you like a bit of country air, we seriously recommend a visit to Buttermere! 21st – 25th Sept ’15. It took us nearly 6 hours to get here. It was definately worth the travel. Beautiful place!! Will definately be returning, especially as after nearly 8 years together Dan booked this holiday to ask for my hand in marriage!! 🙂

13.9.15 – 20.9.15. Jo & Wayne are most helpful, couldn’t do enough and very good on local places of interest. Highly recommend Dodd Wood, Ulswater & Buttermere to name a few, along with Lowther Castle. Excellent meals had at both Mason Arms & Barn & Bistro, both a must & both very friendly. Molly loved her long lake walks as much as we did. Our first time to Cumbria, we weren’t dissapointed. Weather was great too! We shall be back next year! Many thanks.

5th – 19th Sept 2015. Enjoyed a lovely 2 weeks here. The weather has been fantastic. The scenery is beautiful. Explored both the coastal area and the lakes. We had a boat trip and a narrow gauge railway ride all in beautiful sunshine. Thanks.

12 Sept 2015 – 3 Nights. We had a lovely quiet & peaceful stay. Went to Silloth, Cockermouth, Maryport and Keswick. Cottage was delightful & location lovely. Thank you very much.

9/9/15 – 13/9/15. Loved spending a relaxing time here, loved the hot tub and Bar’n’Bistro was amazing. This was a fantastic first holiday, so lovely & cosy. Had a lovely time and will be back. Fire was amazing to snuggle infront of. xx Thank you.

10 – 13 Sept 2015. Had a lovely time. Cottage nice & cosy, has everthing you need. Went to Allonby, Maryport, St Bees Head, Buttermere & Cockermouth! Great places to visit & weather was superb apart from 1 morning of rain. Ozzy had a great time as everwhere is dog friendly, especially Mason’s Arms where the food is great! Hope to be back soon.

7 -11 Sept 2015. Lovely 4 nights, has to be one of the best holidays in Cumbria. Give the hot tub a try, it’s fab. Many thanks. xx

29 August – 5 September. Brilliant cottage, brilliant setting. Easy reach of big towns and lakes. Really friendly hosts and really great holiday.

1/9/15 – 5/9/15. Really enjoyed spending the last part of our honeymoon here. Very relaxing and cosy. Going to miss sitting and watching the birds with our morning coffee. Both the Masons Arms and the Bar’n’Bistro were lovely friendly pubs with nice food. Highly recommend using the hot tub and settling down for the night with the fire lit and a take away from Fiza Spice.

Very nice cottage, peaceful holiday, location good. Didn’t get to coast, maybe next time as this is our first time in Lakes, we will be back sometime. Buttermere beautiful and the quietest place to spend the day, Marley the Doodle loved every minute as water everywhere!

22 – 29 August. We had a lovely week at Stables 4 cottage. It was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed. The weather was good for us and visited St Bees, Allonby and Silloth, which was lovely. Also enjoyed walks at Loweswater and Ennerdale. The hot tub is great too. Meals out at the local Bistro and pub were very good. Thanks Jo & Wayne for making us so welcome.

16th – 22nd August 2015. We are regular visitors for a very good reason. It’s perfect. We visited Scotland, the Pennines & of course the Lakes- all from here. Fantastic walks with our two dogs, who loved the mountains, the lakes & the beach on the Solway coast! We will be back in December, when the fire will be on, cannot wait. A good meal at the Bistro, run by very friendly couple. See you when it’s colder!

21/8/15 – 25/8/15. An excellent stay yet again. We will be back sooner this time!! Had an excellent meal at the Bar’n’Bistro and the Mason Arms welcomed Millie the two evenings we went there. Thank you.

22nd August, 3 nights. We all had a lovely stay, lovely location. Very quiet and cosy. Went for a meal at the Barn’n’Bistro, highly recommend. Would come again. Thanks.

7th – 8th August 2015. This was a last minute booking after getting the chance for a week away. We wanted to get to visit the Lakes by staying in nice accomodation. We had all our boxes ticked when we arrived, great location, tidy & comfortable & close to the lakes. We brought our 2 Staffies who loved it. Had dinner (x2) at the Bar’n’Bistro, lovely food. Thanks for a wonderful visit and location.

Our first visit to the Lake District, but won’t be our last! We’ve had a wonderful, relaxing holiday. The cottage is perfectly situated- we’ve managed to visit Carlisle, Keswick, Kendal, Windermere & Ullswater. We would recommend the Masons Arms- only a 10 minute walk and the food was lovely. The hot tub was a lovely treat for our final night. We definately intend to return and will be encouraging friends & family to visit these cottages. Thank you        🙂

2nd – 9th August ’15. Beautiful area, loved the cottage. Didn’t use the hot tub, but DID use the steam cubicle- TRY IT!! We’ve had a wonderful holiday, finished it with our last day treking up to the summit of Dodd Wood- the most amazing views over Keswick, Derwent Water & Bassenthwaite Lake- can’t encourage you enough to walk it & enjoy the views.

We all had a great time. Very welcoming and relaxing setting. Cottage was just perfect, wish we could have stayed longer. Roxy’s favourite was the beach at St Bees! Thank you for everything.

29th July – 2nd August. Back once again to beautiful Ellen Hall cottages. Our cottage is as cosy as ever. Always spotlessly clean, light and airy……We stayed here for our Honeymoon and are back again to celebrate 2 years together. Last year we stayed in the Hayloft for our anniversary. We’ll be back again before the end of the year. Thanks again.

We have had a lovely week, it’s been a very nice break. A cosy cottage with lovely peaceful surroundings. This is a fantastic place to set out on a morning to explore the lakes.

Our stay here was arranged by son & daughter in law as a 30th anniversary present. We are pleased they did, lovely place and very nice people. We were fortunate to have wall to wall sunshine….. Ideal location as fairly central for most places of interest. Don’t forget to try the hot tub, we did and had a wonderful relaxing 45 minutes. We intend to come back soon.

5th – 12th July. 7 nights. A very peaceful and relaxing stay. We’ve had a great holiday and Ted the Border Collie has found his spiritual home. We had 2 lovely meals at the Bar’n’Bistro; highly recommended if you like your food. Thank you Jo & Wayne. Kim, Ray and Teddy ?

Spur of the moment break & luckily had space for us. Beautiful location, friendly people. Warm, comfortable & clean place. Try thr Baywatch Hotel in Allonby (Jacks Surf Bar)- lovely food, nice atmosphere & the barmaid was so kind. Well worth a visit.! After a beautiful Buttermere day we booked the Hot Tub- it was absolutely amazing! So relaxing & well worth it. All in all a fabulous location……We will be back 🙂

8.5.15 – 12.5.15. My ideal accommodaton- loved the 1st floor lounge with a view! Almost didn’t want to go out! Also just what we wanted- a change from ‘flat’ Norfolk! Although being a ‘Geordie’ I love the Norfolk broads too! We felt priveledged to be here with all the young lambs about & the bluebells at Rannerdale made a delightful walk……..would love to return! We enjoyed our stay at Ellen Hall- with family up the road in Gilcrux & Cockermouth, this was a nice base for us. It is lovely and peaceful and it gets nice and cosy in the upstairs room when the fire is on. The box of chocolates and card to welcome us was a really nice touch- thank you!

Came for a 49th Birthday, lovely & relaxing, hot tub fab. Cottages are in a great location, will come again. The pooches loved it after long walks.

The cottage was everthing we were looking for. Clean, welcoming atmosphere, very quiet & peaceful & the perfect place to relax. Would also recommend the Masons Arms which is just up the road for a meal. Their food was inexpensive and absolutley outstanding.

31st- 3rd Oct. Very quiet, peaceful and homely. Perfect place to spend quality time with loved ones. Very nice trip to the beach, very different from the noise in the city. Would certainly recommend to friends and family and will return….

Had a lovely stay, enjoyed days out and cosy nights in. A pleasant location away from it all. Weather wasn’t great, but didn’t spoil our stay as cottage was lovely and warm. Look forward to returning.

Had a wonderful & peaceful stay at Stables cottage. Jo was a delightful host, very informative & welcoming. The cottage is everything you need & very warm. We enjoyed touring the local area & the autumnal colours were simply stunning! Had some wonderful meals at Keswick which is extremely dog friendly, especially the Saddleback Cafe.

12th Oct’ 2014. 4 nights. We very much enjoyed our stay, had a wonderful time in Dykes cottage. The place is very relaxing, especially the hot tub and surroundings.

100% Will be making another visit. Sunset at Allonby- stunning. Buttermere etc- breathtaking. Unfortunately didn’t make it to any of the bars; Shadow is getting on and needed her beauty sleep. So relaxing and very warm welcome. Next time we will bring the sun.

Had a brilliant couple of days here at Ellen Hall, cottage very warm and welcoming and well equipped. Brilliant hot tub experience and walks have been fabulous. We have had a brilliant stay up here in the Lake District. The cottage has been a base for us spending every day out, what a base to come home to. Had some lovely romantic meals for 2 in the cottage. The Lakes are so beautiful and Bella has loved exploring everywhere. Thank you for a beautiful week.

A lovely peaceful retreat with birdsong, flowers and delightful accommodation. We can recommend: coastal resorts of Maryport, Allonby and Silloth and the coastal cycle lane. Cockermouth: a town of character and historical ‘greats’ and tea shops. Lakes: Buttermere- delightful to walk around……….A special holiday.

Very peaceful, just what we needed. Lovely hosts, weather just right. Got lost down some country lanes. Ha ha. Would come again.

Our first visit with Jo & Wayne as our hosts & was not dissapointed, lovely welcome from all the family. We had a very relaxed and happy week. Love the addition of the Hot Tub- anyone wondering whether to book……don’t hesitate, it is amazing. Had such a wonderful deep sleep after being in the Hot Tub. Do book at The Bar’n’Bistro, the food, staff and atmosphere is wonderful. The wednesday steak night should not be missed. This was our first visit to this area, the wee cottage was lovely and cosy. Had some great days out, excellent fish supper in Allonby cert worth coming back for. Molly loved her beach walks every night. Would certainly recommend Ellen Hall, had a great holiday. Thank you again. x

Lovely 3 night stay to celebrate my Birthday. Fabulous walks on the beach with our Chocolate Labrador ‘Charlie’, he enjoyed his stay as much as we did 🙂 Cosy nights in front of the fire, all three of us will definitely be coming back! Thank you.

Our first stay here and it’s been wonderful, the dogs have had a fab time aswell! Can highly recommend a walk around Loweswater & a visit to the Kirkstile Inn (dogs allowed before 6pm) and a walk around Bassenthwaite, visiting The Sun (Dogs always welcome!) & The Pheasant. Many lovely walks and pubs to visit! The Hot Tub is a must, very relaxing. Thank you to Jo & Wayne for a wonderful get away. P.S. We will be back……soon!

We came here on our honeymoon having married on the 1st August. A lovely, tranquil cottage / location to relax in- exactly what we needed after planning our day for two years!. The hot tub was used a few times and we’d highly recommend it to anyone. Enjoyed meals at both Bar’n’Bistro and Masons Arms, which were equally yummy. We have to go back to reality tomorrow but would rather stay!

….What a magical place! Absolutely loved our visit to this calm & peaceful cottage. We recommend Aspatria for getting groceries, as the nearest bit of civilisation (!) and Keswick is a lovely town for getting souvenirs for the family. Boats at Keswick not to be missed. Oh! And don’t forget a peaceful stroll through Dodd Wood, the Ospreys are amazing! Thank you for a wonderful stay. xxx

28th July – 2nd August. Our third visit, still as peaceful & friendly as ever. Buttermere lake is a beautiful walk and the Bar’n’Bistro has lovely food and very friendly too. Craig enjoyed the Hot Tub- very relaxing. A brilliant base for exploring. We will be back!

Lovely relaxing stay. Came with parents who stayed in different cottage and have been several times before. It was as fantastic as they said. Perfect getaway, beautiful location and made to feel very welcome. Cottage was immaculate, clean and a home from home. Would definately recommend! x

Parlour is a lovely comfortable place to stay for both people & dogs!…excellent hosts and have not only made us feel very welcome but have been a wonderful source of information for walks & local attractions. Would particularly recommend “The Cod Father” in Allonby for fish and chips as well as watching the sunset over Solway Firth from Allonby beach.

What a great find! Lovely little clean, cosy cottage, everything we needed in such a good location! Hosts very friendly, hot tub was amazing after a long hot day walking and swimming in Blackmoss Pot! We will be recommending to friends & will most certainly be back, only next time we will stay longer and try the pubs in the village.

Stopped here on our way back from Helensburgh, Scotland to London. The Hayloft was fabulous, lovely walks nearby. Went to Maryport & Allonby beach. Fabulous quiet beach, weather was fantastic. This place is so peaceful & relaxing. Would definately come back, bring the dog next time; would be an ideal location for a dog & to explore the Lake District more. Thank you Jo & Wayne, will see you again soon as we go to Scotland 2 or 3 times a year.

Hayloft is ideal- it has everything you need. The hot tub was a lovely start to a lovely day (Saturday was our wedding anniversary). Really great place, holiday was brilliant, Jo & Wayne are great hosts. We will return as soon as possible. The walking around the area is excellent, some good climbs and views. We can also highly recommend the Mason Arms- good food and a warm friendly welcome.

Wow!! What a beautiful cottage. The steam bath is amazing- I now want one at home! It was mine and my Husband’s first trip first trip away without the children and couldn’t’ve wished for a cosier, peaceful place to stay. Masons Arms is absolutley gorgeous.100% recommend.

Thank you for such a wonderful break, we’ve had a lovely time away from London smog & tube strikes! We had the option of staying in a Stables Cottage but actually preferred the Hayloft as it was so cute with beautiful views & the sunset. Jo & Wayne were very helpful and even copied a map so we got to climb a peak without getting too lost. Great holiday. xxx

This was our first time visiting the Lake District and we shall no doubt be returning soon……visited half a dozen lakes, the prettiest and most tranquil of which was Buttermere- thanks to Wayne’s recommendation. The cottage is lovely & so cosy & warm. You are very well provided for here, the Hot Tub makes an excellent bonus.

We had a very pleasant stay in the Hayloft- it was comfortable and cosy with everything we could have needed. Plus being able to bring our pet, Bobbi was a bonus. A fantastic place from which to explore the Lake District as well as a visit and brief dip in the sea at Maryport. Superb walks up Scafell Pike and Blencathra in good weather with magnificent views. Good recommendations from Jo to explore Buttermere and Ennerdale lakes. And a great evening at the theatre in Keswick which has a raft of productions on. Very cosy and romantic cottage for us and well appreciated by the dogs too, especially the fire! Thanks xxx

Have had a wonderful short break, we usually stay in Keswick, but decided that we wanted to explore the West Coast. Lovely cottage, peaceful surroundings and very friendly hosts. Looking forward to a return visit next year.

Had a good weeks holiday & celebrated our 18th Wedding Anniverary. Weather better than predicted. plenty of walking and coming back to a relaxing chill out in your cottage. Thanks for all you did for us. Hollie loved it.

Once again we have had a lovely break in this lovely cottage. This time to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We have been coming here for many years and could not think of anywhere else we would rather celebrate. Hot tub was lovely. I am sure we will be back for our 12th visit soon.

Perfect little place to stay. Perfect base camp to explore all parts of the lakes. We went up to Hadrians wall and down to Windermere. Keswick is our favourite, lovely shopping, make sure you visit Podgy Paws with your pooch xx

Exactly what we were looking for in our Honeymoon! Relaxed and peaceful, slept so well every night & loved having the fire to curl up infront of. Made the most of the late September sun. A perfect place to stay, ideally situated for touring area. Ennerdale & Wast Water amazing. Jo & Wayne have got everything right here. Hayloft cozy and very well equipped. Definately go home and tell friends & family about this amazing place.

Wow what a beautiful place! Gary and I came for our honeymoon. Wish we could stay longer. We are “outdoorsy” types so really enjoyed sitting out by the beck with a glass of wine in the evening, watching the wildlife. Bike hire was great. Good spot for Keswick and local towns, but out of the way enough to get peace. Both the local pub and Bistro serve good food. Fantastic. Thank you Jo & Wayne.

We came here to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. It is our first time at Salkeld cottage and did not disappoint us. The place is cosy, spacious and full of life (birds in the eaves). We have loved the Hot Tub which was used every evening after exploring the surrounding areas. We celebrated our anniversary with a meal at Winder Hall which was beautiful. We have walked around Buttermere, sailed on Derwent water and are going to lake Windermere on our way home. Lovely hosts, Wayne and Jo who are very welcoming. Thanks for a fab stress free few days. We will return at some point.

Very peaceful location and good local food courtesy of Masons Arms. An abundance of excellent walks & cycling routes, especially Buttermere and Whinlatter forest park. Seeing a Red Squirrel locally was an unexpected treat. A most enjoyable stay.

We came to relax, chill out and de-stress. The area is very picturesque and peaceful. The steam room is excellent and feels like its doing some good! Superb! We loved the cottage, location and with Jo and Wayne as hosts, this has been the best holiday we have had in the lakes. The hot tub and steam room were wonderful after a long day out, we were lucky to have sunshine everyday. We would thoroughly recommend Ellen Hall as the place to stay. We will be back with our bikes asap and hope we have many return visits. Brilliant!

We had never been to the Lakes before and Ellen Hall made the perfect place to explore the area. We discovered Cockermouth and the beautiful Solway Coast and even climbed a mountain! Comfortable and relaxing stay in peaceful, scenic surroundings. Enjoyed our stay very much. Just what we needed to rewind away from the stress and work. Cottage is very homely and it was very nice to have a modern TV with freeview channels. Everyone was friendly without invading our space. The week went by far too quickly, we could have easily stayed if it wasn’t for commitments at home.

Beautiful home with lovely surroundings. The short walks through the countryside are perfect for enjoying the wonderful scenery without straying too far. Wildlife seems to lurk around every corner and have provided us with fab photos and lovely memories. We have enjoyed visiting the local towns, villages and lakes. Everyone here that we had the pleasure to meet have been very helpful and friendly. Our short stay has provided us with a peaceful relaxing time away from the stresses of everyday life. Congratulations on your wonderful find, all the success for the future. We have had a relaxing week, just what we needed, quiet and cosy despite the hurricane! Fly Fishing (up the track) was superb, well stocked with large trout the fly fishing lake. Many thanks, we very much hope to return again some day. We will spread the word down south.
