Summer at Buttermere

We had glorious days in May and June last year, a pretty good summer too! July was a mixed bag; but it was still good walking weather in the Lake District national park and our holiday cottages were fully booked well in advance of the summer holidays.

Get booking now, if you can, there are still some vacancies and our Stables Cottages are still great value for weekly summer breaks. Remember, you need only pay a third deposit now to secure the holiday cottage of your choice.

💡 See below for the exciting news on the Tour of Britain in Cumbria

Why not start the summer holidays early in June with a couple of Beer Festivals in Boot and Keswick (Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th June and Friday 5th to Saturday 6th June for Keswick). There is also the Cumberland County Show on the 6th at- Carlisle Racecourse, Durdar Road, CA2 4TS and Woolfest (Cockermouth) this year is Friday 25th to Saturday 27th June. For those of you already feeling the summer heat why not have a go at the Great North Swim in Windermere- Friday 12th to Sunday 14th June, there are different races for all abilities and you can just watch Europe’s biggest open water swimming event if wetsuit and goggles ain’t your thing!

There are a number of shows to see in July, including Derwent Water Regatta on Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th. We recommend hiring a canoe or kayak from Derwent Water Marina- Portinscale, Keswick, Cumbria CA12 5RF, perhaps even try your hand at sailing with a taster lesson- it’s a lovely time of year to be on the lake.

Shows in August are- Cartmel Show, Lunesdale Show, Rydal Show, Lowther Show, Hawkshead Show and in easy distance of Ellen Hall and Cottages Made For Two- the Keswick Agricultural Show which has “something to please everyone” and this year is on the 26th August. Lastly, Loweswater Show is on Sunday the 6th of September and September 2019 promises to be a busy/spectacular month!…………

***Look back to September 2015***

Here’s hoping for a long summer, an Indian summer like that year and with everthing going on so far, there will be enough to see and do to fill it.

2015- You may have already heard (if you live in Cumbria/are a cycling fanatic and have not heard; where have you been!!) The Tour of Britain is whizzing through the county on two, yes two, stages! And the third stage is starting at Cockermouth on the 8th of September, it will taking in Maryport and the Solway coastline via Silloth, then to Carlisle, finishing in Scotland at Floors Castle outside Kelso. The fifth stage will finish atop Hartside Fell in the Pennines, two days later, at 1,904-feet high. This will be the highest finish in modern history of the tour, the first time the county of Cumbria will have welcomed two stages of the tour. ➡ Why not hire our bikes to see the tour whizz past on the Solway coast; an easy ride from Ellen Hall. If you want to bring your own we have secure storage for them. 🙂

21st-26th November 2024. We have had a lovely relaxing break. Had a couple of days visiting Ambleside and Kewsick, the rest of the time relaxing in Hayloft. We will be back next year- definitely.
