Love self-catering in Cumbria and the Lake District? Return year after year or never been before?……….

With a holiday at Cottages Made For Two, you’re in a perfect spot for self-catering in Cumbria. The cottages are well placed from which to explore the dramatic scenery of England’s biggest National Park. The Lake District is now a World Heritage site, but it’s not just the lakes and fells that make this north western part of England so unforgettable. Visit lovely English market towns like Keswick and Cockermouth and explore the Solway Coast or even perhaps Hadrians Wall. All this from the cosy “home from home” that is your cottage made exclusively with couples in mind.

Walking holidays self-catering

No need to worry about when to get up for breakfast or getting back in time for tea, it’s your time and your space. You can rest assured that this is exactly what we want for your special stay.

We pride ourselves on the personal touch, so you can be confident that someone is on hand to help you with your stay. We love to suggest ideas on what to do and see; but we also understand that you may just want time to relax, unwind and feel the peace and tranquility that surrounds the cottages. Above all, we want you to enjoy your stay so much, that you will want to return……a great deal of our guests do and it’s always an honour to welcome you again.

All of our self-catering cottages in Cumbria have a fully equipped kitchen to cater for all your needs. Included are an oven and hob, a microwave, fridge with ice box and cooking utensils and equipment.

Relaxing with a self-catering break

All cottages have a  digital television with a DVD player so don’t forget the odd DVD or two for the rainy days and long evenings in. WI-Fi is free too, but for those of you that want to leave all that behind, we display the mountain weather forecast supplied by mwis.org.uk. For those of you who want to explore Cumbria without a car, we’ll hire you bikes and even if you prefer to bring your own; we have secure storage for them.

There is a shared laundry which runs on an ”honesty” basis which has both washing machine and tumble dryers. An iron and ironing is available too.

There are many local places to get groceries, the village of Aspatria has the closest convenience stores, which include a co-op that is always open late, even if you are arriving on a Sunday. Cockermouth has a Sainsburys, an Aldi, Boots and many local butchers and grocery shops. We spent many years traveling to the lakes before we moved here and know that sometimes the traffic can be very slow, so if you want us to pop out and get some provisions for you for when you arrive just let us know and we will do our best to get what you want.

When you want a break from self-catering, you can take a stroll to one of two pubs in our nearby village of Gilrux. Both offer a friendly welcome and a truly tasty meal, dog friendly too!!

We do not have a reception area but we hold an open door policy so if you have any enquiries just pop up to the farm house and we will do our utmost to assist you. We want to ensure you have all you need for a perfect, self-catering in Cumbria holiday. If you chose to stay with us, our online booking form (to the right of each cottage page) is easy to fill out, we will let you know how you can obtain the key to your property.

21st-26th November 2024. We have had a lovely relaxing break. Had a couple of days visiting Ambleside and Kewsick, the rest of the time relaxing in Hayloft. We will be back next year- definitely.
