Romantic Holidays for couples

Rydal Mount, The Historic Home & Gardens of William Wordsworth

“Nowhere on earth have I seen a spot of more perfect and enjoyable beauty” Thomas Arnold on Rydal Mount & Gardens

Rydal Mount, in the heart of the Lake District, lies between Ambleside and Grasmere and commands glorious views of Lake Windermere, Rydal Water and the surrounding fells.

This was Wordsworth’s best loved family home for the greater part of his life from 1813 to his death in 1850, at the age of 80. It was here that he wrote many of his poems, revised and improved much of his earlier works and published the final version of his most famous poem ‘Daffodils’.

Wordsworth was a keen landscape gardener and the four acre garden remains very much as he designed it.

It consists of fell-side terraces, including Dora’s Terrace, rock pools and an ancient mound. There are rare shrubs and, in season, the daffodils, bluebells and rhododendrons produce a spectacular display of colour.

Restaurants Made for Two

It’s in the way crops are grown, tended and harvested.  In the way ingredients are selected, prepared and combined. The way recipes are tried, refined then tried again. When so much dedication goes into creating something, it becomes a work of art.

Cumbria is full of such culinary masterpieces, from simple loaves from local bakeries to dishes in Michelin starred restaurants, real ale to damson gin.  As well as there being so many specialities to try, there are so many places to try them.  Whenever you come to the Lakes, make sure you’re hungry.

Romantic holidays for couples can be made so much more memorable with a special meal with a view.
