Anything you can do…..
Western Fells. Lank Rigg.
Dasher may have made it to the top of Lank Rigg first, but Dylan topped his feat with just that little extra altitude…….Here we are looking North East toward Ennerdale Fell, before our descent via Whoap Beck. You can do this from Whoap Fell and Red Beck from Ennerdale as well.
We went over 3 outer-lying Wainwrights, in the Western Lake District on Monday. Starting at the Kinniside Stone Circle and taking in Blakeley Raise on the way to Grike (488m) and lunch/markies/gravy bones at the shelter. Next up was Crag Fell (523m), always inspiring from Ennerdale Lake and the summit did not disappoint; with a fine view right through the valley. A boggy meandering followed through the once forested valley on the way to Whoap and finally Lank Rigg (541m).
The weather was kind enough for us to be able to take in the sheer expanse of wilderness seen from the Rigg on the eastern side and one can appreciate Wainwrights comment- “Die here, unaccompanied, and your disappearance from society is likely to remain an unsolved mystery”. Dylan, Dasher and Dad (The 3D’s) made it back though, to plan our next adventure this Autumn half term.
